WHY:

Since September thousands of evacuees from the Gulf Coast region have been living in New York City in Hotels. Many are now facing eviction from their temporary housing stay without proper assistance. The promises made by the Bloomberg Administration to assist the New York Katrina/Rita Evacuees remain largely unfulfilled. Confounding levels of bureaucratic red tape squanders what precious time remains for thee vacuees to find permanent housing and stable employment opportunities.

The Human Resources Administration (H.R.A.), the Department of Homeless Services (D.H.S.) the Homeless Diversionary Unit (H.D.U.) and a host of NGO’s that have been contracted to provide services to the evacuees are providing inefficient case management solutions and creating a daunting gauntlet of red tape.
