STOP POLICE TERRORISM
Day of Outrage NYC
Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at 3pm
Assemble: 33rd Street & 8th Avenue, New York City
Amid increased police abuse and harassment, Black and Latino community activists are calling for unified stiff resistance. On Tuesday, September 11, a day that New Yorkers recognize the reality of terrorism, community activists will hold a city wide Protest of Police Terrorism. Demonstrators plan to assemble in midtown Manhattan at 33rd Street and 8th Avenue at 3 PM for a “Day of Outrage against Police Terrorism.”
Organizers cite intensifying police racial profiling, brutality, harassment, stop and frisks, street sweeps, religious profiling, and murder on a national level. The recent police arrest and brutalizing of Attorneys Michael and Evelyn Warren in Brooklyn, as they attempted to help a handcuffed black man being “stomped and kicked” by police from the 77th precinct, galvanized a broad cross section of activists. Community mobilization activities are escalating.
An organizer passing out flyers on 125th Street declared “We have to resist this onslaught of police terrorism in our community. Enough is enough; there can be no more business as usual. We have to shut the city down!”
